Solo Travel: A magical experience!

Mangalore is a magical place. The beach is lonely and I am alone. I do not listen to any football, movies or politics. It’s just the sound of the waves I can hear.

Wait … someone is talking out loud! This is my opinion. I ask myself the same question over and over again: is it better to travel alone? Why are people so reluctant to travel alone?

I heard people say: I never went on vacation because I had no one to go with me.

Really? Is it an excuse not to go out and stay at home all the time? Do you find traveling alone boring and strange? If you feel this way, it’s time to work on that concept again.

I love traveling with my family and friends, but in recent years I have become accustomed to traveling alone! But as one of my passions, I had a few questions before ‘traveling solo’.

‘What if I get sick and no one cares?’

‘What should I do if I steal all my money?’

‘What if I’m in an accident, kidnapped, or killed?’ ‘

Concerns are original. But what is the guarantee that you are 100 percent safe even when traveling with someone? Accidents can happen at any time, and it’s cowardly not to do it because you feel something is going to be bad. It’s like telling me not to drive because it can cause accidents.

With a strong determination and a strong contingency plan, you can overcome all these obstacles and manage your journey. I did it and I consider it very rewarding.

After traveling a lot, I had all kinds of experiences. I realized that all these experiences are different. But they have one thing in common: when you travel with someone, you are out of your head and you get along very well with the people around you. When you travel alone, you tend to be in your head. You tend to talk to yourself a lot.

I’ve been to Mysore three times with my friends, once on camera for a documentary, and once alone. Although the purpose was the same, the experience was different.

My first trip was a secret run – a trip my friends planned outside of the blue.

“Let’s go to Mysore,” my friend and teacher suggested one day. “It doesn’t hurt to walk one day in college.”

We gathered that day and went to Mysore early the next morning. Since we had to spend a lot of money, we decided to return that day with a congested local passenger train. It was a tedious six-hour turn without finding a place to sit. But the trip was fun: the best beer in the world, the fastest train of bullets, all the ways to discuss the cannibal tribes of Africa, to stand at the door of a moving train. It was a journey that I will rarely forget, a journey that gave me the true joy of being a bohemian.

My second trip was an official one. There were directors, producers, faculties and students. It was a crowded trip and we rarely get a chance to enjoy the place. For most of the trip, we rode in a claustrophobic car, and much of what we saw went through the camera lens. We were in a hurry. The only thing I loved during this trip was having lunch with the producer at the Royal Club. Few people around us were shooting vodka, but we were not allowed. We returned in the same minibus, our boots clung to the seats, their backs froze and he died.

Recently, I went to Mysore again, to go to a club meeting. This time I was alone! It gave me a different experience – wonderful!

I had complete freedom to choose what I wanted and where I wanted. My time and budget were my own. I found more comfort and was open to many, many interesting opportunities. I met a lot of solo travelers, and one of them became a blogger like me!
